As young adults, students may think that drug and alcohol abuse does not happen to people their age. This bulletin board provides statistical data to show that abuse does happen to people our age.

This bulletin board educates residents that everything is not love and makes residents aware of how to deal with issues of unhealthy relationships with their partners and themselves by providing common warning signals.

This bulletin board stars a fictional character named Captain Gluv who talks about the different types of STIs and the importance of using protection during sex.

Bad Romance

This bulletin board uses different celebrities' stories about domestic violence. This board educates the residents that even rich and famous people are victims of different types of unhealthy relationships.

This bulletin board gives students a fun way to answer questions about things that could influence their study habits to ultimately see where the best place is for them to study. This benefits the residents because it shows them a way they can improve their studying and their grades!

Academic Wellness

This bulletin board has tips about academic life and gives information about free tutoring that the University provides. It is eye catching so residents notice it and read what's on it.

100% Proof/ Alcohol Awareness

Many of my residents have recently participated in alcohol edu. So instead of reiterating the same concept I decided to take a different approach. Many of my residents are not from the Tuscaloosa area so attached to the red cups are laws and regulations for the state of Alabama and the city of Tuscaloosa referring to alcohol consumption. The labels are set up like a trivia so that residents will be more inclined to physically walk up to the bulletin board and read the correct answer. I used the "beer pong" display for the red cups to appeal on a different level that would capture the attention of residents.

Beat the Thing that Bug You/ Stress Management

This bulletin board gives residents helpful tips regarding stress and how to manage it in a healthy way. This is especially helpful during October because of midterms.

Recycle Your Life

The background is the current UA Volunteer Guide which gives residents information about giving back. Also included are pictures of an RA and some residents volunteering with children. An accompanying bulletin board was made for residents to sign and pledge to give back. Most residents have already signed it.

Save The Tatas - Breast Cancer Awareness

This bulletin board benefits residents by explaining what breast cancer awareness is and why it is so important. It shows why October is dedicated to breast cancer. It also explains how doctors and scientists are still searching for a cure. We want to find the cure and save lives.

Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger

This board educates residents about Alabama's poverty and how they can fight against it. The board tells residents how they can contribute. It supports civic engagement and calls residents to action.

Happy Thanksgiving

This board benefits residents with interesting facts about Thanksgiving and gets them in the holiday spirit.

Warrior Care Month

This board brings awareness of the different types of care for veterans, active duty, and their families offered by the military in order to treat the body, mind, and spirit. The board lists websites, types of care offered, and who to contact if you are interested in receiving or getting help for someone.

Cause and Effect of Smoking

This board gives information on how smoking can take a toll on your body and how to keep your body healthy.

Students have the opportunity to write what they are thankful for and tape it to the bulletin board in order to recognize all the blessings they experience here at UA.

Friendship is Magic

While at college, some residents forget that their friends are there to help them succeed. It is never easy to go at a task all alone, and having a true friend to help you makes all the difference because friendship is like magic; it can make everything easier, bring happiness, and bring us all together. My bulletin board shows characters from the TV show My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. Each character represents a different element of harmony, honesty, kindness, loyalty, generosity, and laughter which together bring forth the magic that is friendship. During the second semester, when most residents have settled in, it is the time for them to go out to campus, get involved and make new friends that will help them through the good and bad times that surely will lie ahead.

Welcome Back!

This board helps the residents to get to know the other residents on the hall and creates a welcoming atmosphere for the new semester.

This bulletin board was to promote money saving in the new year.

Oh The Places You'll Go

This board has the character from the Dr. Seuss book traveling through the board to places near Tuscaloosa that residents can visit. It's to promote travel and discovering new things in the new year. It also has some inspirational lines from the story on it.

National Champions

This board celebrates the national companionship won by the football team.

Healthy Relationships

This board explains what qualities a healthy relationship should have, including acceptance, trust and support, respect, and safety. The board also list the basic rights that people should have in a relationship, like "The right to have your own point of view, even if it differs from your partner's," and "The right to be heard by the other and to be responded to with courtesy," which serve as examples of what people should expect from a good relationship.

Love In Every language

This bulletin board gives the residents information about how to be more diverse and learn things about different cultures and meet new people. It gives great details on places, locations and upcoming events to get them started!

Sex Education

This board has tips for safe sex, as well as fun facts about relationships. And most importantly, it has the Women's Resource Center number on it and informs students that the WRC offers free and confidential counseling.

LOVE: Lakeside's Secrets for Safe Dating

This bulletin board captures the spirit of Valentine's Day not only with it's color scheme, but also its message. It focuses on ways to stay safe while dating and ways to defend yourself, especially on first dates or blind dates. It also contains contact information for the Women's Resource Center and for the Counseling Center.
