Residence Hall Specific Move In Information

Burke East and West and Parham:
Move in for freshmen in this community will be on Friday, August 15, from 8:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m..  Upperclassmen will move in on Sunday, August 17, from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  You may complete your paperwork and pick up your keys in your building’s living room.  Remember to bring your parking pass.  You may also find that a hand truck is very helpful.

Blount, Friedman, Palmer, Paty, Somerville
Move in for your community will be on Friday, August 15, for freshmen and Sunday, August 17, for returning students.  You may check in each day between 8:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m. in the lobby of your assigned building.  If you arrive after 6:00 p.m., you must contact the Resident Advisor (RA) for assistance.  The phone number will be posted in various locations in each building.  Residents of Paty may go to the front desk in the lobby for assistance.  If you have a small hand truck to bring during move in, you will find it helpful.  Please also bring the parking pass that you received in the mail.

Bryant Hall:
Move in for your community will be on Friday, August 15, for freshmen and Sunday, August 17, for returning students.  Please go to the Bryant Office (located in L108 Bryant Hall).  If you have a small hand truck to bring during move in, you will find it helpful.  Please also bring the parking pass that you received in the mail.

Bryce Lawn:  
Move in for your community will be on Friday, August 15, for freshmen and Sunday, August 17, for returning students.  You may check in each day between 8:00 a.m and 7:00 p.m. in the Bryce Lawn Office (located in Building 500-101).  If you arrive after 7:00 p.m., you must contact the Resident Advisor (RA) for assistance.  The phone number will be posted on the front door of the Bryce Lawn Office. If you have a small hand truck to bring during move in, you will find it helpful.  Please also bring the parking pass that you received in the mail.

Byrd:
Move-in for your community will begin on Friday, August 15, at 8:00 a.m. Week of Welcome activities for freshmen begin that evening.  You can complete your paperwork and pick up your keys in the Byrd Hall lobby.  If you arrive after 6:00 p.m., you should go to the community desk in Harris Hall (located on Colonial Drive across from Bryant-Denny Stadium) for assistance.  Please bring the parking pass that you received in the mail on move-in day.

Harris Hall:
Move-in for your community will begin on Friday, August 15, at 8:00 a.m. Week of Welcome activities for freshmen begin that evening.  You can complete your paperwork and pick up your keys in the Harris Hall lobby.  Please bring the parking pass that you received in the mail on move-in day.

Highlands:
Move in for this community will be Friday, August 15, from 8:00-6:00 for incoming freshmen and Sunday, August 17, from 8:00-6:00 for upperclassmen.  You will complete your paperwork and pick up your keys in the Highlands Activity Building.   Anyone arriving outside of these move in times should check in at the Rose Towers front desk.  If you have a hand truck, you may find that it is very helpful to bring.

Lakeside:
Move in for our community will be on Friday, August 15 beginning at 8:00 a.m. You will pick up keys and fill out check in paperwork at Lakeside East or Lakeside West, depending on where your room assignment is located, from 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.  During move-in, the parking lot in front of Lakeside will be designated as a 30 minute unloading zone only.  Additional parking will be located in the North Ferguson lot.

  • Parking close to the building is limited, so you may want to bring moving items such as a Hand Truck or Portable Cart to assist you on move-in day.
  • A small cleaning kit for your apartment will be useful throughout the year as you care for your area.
  • Each room is equipped with a data port for Internet access, cable connection, and a telephone jack for phone service.  Please bring your own computer, television, and telephone as these will not be provided by HRC. In reference to phones, Lakeside residents will have access to a landline (at no extra charge) but they will have to sign up for it on our web site. Beginning July 15, students can indicate that they want to use their land line.
  • In regards to bedding, the maximum height of the bed position is 33 inches from the base to the floor.  The mattress dimensions are 80”x 36”x 8;” please purchase extra-long twin sheets for the bed.
  • Laundry rooms are located on-site on the 2nd and 4th floors of each building.
  • You can use a spring tension rod to in the windows to put up curtains. 
  • Individual bedroom dimensions are 10'x10'
  • Individual bedroom window dimensions are 44"x64"
  • Living Room window dimensions 88"x64"

New Hall:
Move-in for your community will begin on Friday, August 15, at 8:00 a.m. Week of Welcome activities for freshmen begin that evening.  You can complete your paperwork and pick up your keys in the lobby of Byrd Hall, which is located right next door to New.  If you arrive after 6:00 p.m., you should go to the community desk in Harris Hall (located on Colonial Drive across from Bryant-Denny Stadium) for assistance.  Please bring the parking pass that you received in the mail on move-in day.

Parker-Adams:
Move-in for your community will begin on Friday, August 15, at 8:00 a.m. Week of Welcome activities for freshmen begin that evening.  You can complete your paperwork and pick up your keys in the Parker-Adams Hall lobby.  If you arrive after 6:00 p.m., you should go to the community desk in Harris Hall (located on Colonial Drive across from Bryant-Denny Stadium) for assistance.  Please bring the parking pass that you received in the mail on move-in day.

Ridgecrest:
The special move in day for your community only is Thursday, August 14.  In order to make move-in as smooth as possible, students have been assigned times based on assigned floor.  These times apply to both the East and West buildings.  It is imperative that we spread he influx of students out over the day to make moving in as smooth as possible; students arriving before their scheduled time will be directed to a holding parking lot until the time that they can move in. Be sure to bring the parking pass you received in the mail on move-in day.

1st floor: After 8:00 a.m.
2nd floor: After 10:00 a.m.
3rd floor: After 12:00 p.m.
4th floor: After 2:00 p.m.

Riverside:
Move-in for incoming freshmen will be on Friday, August 15.  If your last name begins with A-M, you may check in between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.  If your name begins with N-Z, you may check in between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Upperclassmen may move in beginning Sunday, August 17, from 8:00-6:00.  You may complete your paper work and pick up your keys in your assigned building.   You may also check in from 6:00-10:00 p.m. in the Riverside Community Building.

  • Please bring trashcans for your personal room and for the kitchen area; these will not be provided by HRC.  Also, Riverside residents will be expected to transport all trash to the designated trash receptacles on their floor for disposal by Housekeeping Services.
  • Blinds are installed in each room; however any curtains are the sole responsibility of the resident and are only acceptable with spring curtain rods that do not damage the window framing; please note the dimensions of the windows:  Living Room Window - 87” Length, 62 ½” Height; Bedroom Window - 43” Length, 62 ½” Height.
  • Each room is equipped with a data port for Internet access, cable connection, and a telephone jack for phone service.  Please bring your own computer, television, and telephone as these will not be provided by HRC.

  • The Riverside Clubhouse hosts amenities including a furnished media room, game center and staff offices.
  • The Riverside Pool is staffed with a University Lifeguard between the hours of 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday – Thursday; 10 a.m.- 7 p.m., Fri. – Sat., and 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Sunday for your convenience.

Rose Towers:
Move in for freshmen will be Friday, August 15, from 8:00 a.m. -6:00 p.m.  Upperclassmen will move in beginning on Sunday, August 17.  You will complete your paperwork and pick up your keys in the lobby.  Please bring your parking pass that you received in the mail.  A small hand truck will be useful, if you have one to bring.

Tutwiler:
Please note the following as you make preparations for your relocation to the Tutwiler community:

  • Please bring your own computer, television, cable cords, telephone, surge protectors, etc. as these will not be provided by HRC. Beginning July 15th, you may register for usage of the landline phone in your room on the main housing website.
  • Each room is equipped with a combination refrigerator/freezer/microwave unit and is furnished with a standard twin bed, desk, chair, closet, mirror, bulletin board, and dresser for each occupant.
  • Parking close to the building and luggage carts are limited, so we suggest that you bring a hand truck or portable cart to assist you on move-in day. If you are traveling from far away and do not have the space to bring a hand truck, you may want to consider renting one or purchasing one when you arrive.
  • It will be a LONG, HOT day, so please wear something comfortable. I also recommend tennis shoes for the day, as they protect the feet while moving heavy objects.
  • The front entrance of Tutwiler will be closed off for the Sunday, August 10th check in. All residents, parents, and guests must enter through the back of Tutwiler.
  • Tutwiler is scheduled to be fully wireless in the fall, however, to ensure you have internet access, I encourage you to bring an Ethernet cord with you.

For those of you participating in Sorority Recruitment, move in will be on Sunday, August 10, 2008 beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. Sorority recruitment participants cannot move in any earlier than Sunday, August 10th, 2008 as our staff will be in the building preparing it for opening day. Please do not expect to get into the building any earlier than Sunday, August 10th, 2008 at 8 a.m. To begin the check in process, you will need to fill out check-in paperwork and pick up your keys on your individual floor. Please report to your floor when you arrive to begin the check in process. If you happen to forget the floor that you were assigned to when you arrive, you may report to the front desk for assistance.In order to better serve you, we request that you come during your staggered check in time. Please pay attention to the schedule below, created for the purposes of controlling traffic flow and elevator usage:                
                Floors 11-14                         Begin entering at 8am
                Floors 8-10                            Begin entering at 9:30 a.m.
                Floors 5-7                              Begin entering at 11 a.m.
                Floors 2-4                              Begin entering at 12:30 p.m.

Move in for all other residents will be on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no staggered check in time on this date.
