This 62,600 sq-ft., four-story facility includes residential facilities for up to 180 Blount Initiative students, (see living options) classrooms, a seminar room, a reading room, library and computer facilities. There are wireless internet connections throughout the building and a community kitchen on the third floor. Blount has a limited amount of space for students in the College of Arts and Sciences who are not in the Blount Undergraduate Initiative.

The Blount Living-Learning Center is located behind Paty Hall, in close proximity to the Ferguson Student Center and the Student Services Building.

The Bluff at Waterworks Landing is an off-campus apartment community that is managed as part of UA’s on-campus housing community. Residents at the Bluff, who are almost exclusively upperclassmen, are billed for their rent and utilities on their UA student account and enjoy other amenities of on-campus living, including on-site housing staff. The Bluff is located 1.1 miles from the entrance to campus on Jack Warner Parkway.

Residents of the Bluff have a full year (11 ½ month) housing contract, beginning with the opening of the residence halls in August 2011 and ending on July 31, 2012. Students who request and receive a contract cancellation for the summer will pay a cancellation charge of half the summer housing charge. Contract cancellation with no penalty will be granted for graduation and other select academic reasons.

Burke is on the southeast side of campus near Coleman Coliseum, Moody Music Building, the Quad and New Fraternity Row. Burke East and West remain open during university breaks.

Friedman hall is a co-ed facility which houses a total of 128 students in double rooms with community baths, as well as suites with shared baths. Friedman also features common living rooms. These spacious rooms vary in size and arrangement. Some have outside entrances.

Conveniently located near the Bruno Library, Bashinsky Computer Center, Alston and Bidgood Halls (as well as the Quad), Friedman is the ideal building for freshmen and upperclass business majors.

Harris Hall houses 196 students (men and women) in both double rooms with community baths and suites with shared baths. The rooms in Harris are spacious with non-built-in furniture which can be easily rearranged. The building has a common area kitchen, and each room has a combination refrigerator/freezer/microwave unit. There is wireless internet throughout the building. Harris houses the Capstone Nursing Community, Capstone HES Community, the Capstone C&IS Community, and the Parker-Adams Freshman Living-learning Community. These living-learning communities are designed to bring together students with similar academic interests.

The Riverside Community houses 966 residents. The facilities include single, double and four bedroom options with a kitchenette and living room. Riverside East, West and North are all home to Honors Housing for fall 2012.

Riverside is located between the AIME building and Rose Towers, nestled between Hackberry Lane and McCorvey Drive and is within walking distance to all classrooms, the Ferguson Center and the Main Library. All Riverside buildings have wireless internet access throughout the building.

Dining and Laundry Options
The closest dining hall is Lakeside Dining. There are community kitchens on the 1st and 3rd floors of each building, with a convection oven only (no traditional oven or cooktop). Laundry rooms are available on the 2nd and 4th floors of each building.

All residence halls are open for fall and Thanksgiving breaks.

Somerville houses 108 women, in both double rooms with community baths and suites with shared baths. The rooms in Somerville are spacious with moveable furniture which can be easily rearranged. Somerville features a cluster of three or four rooms sharing a bathroom, or a suite with two rooms sharing a bathroom. Somerville has wireless internet access throughout the building.

The building is located on the northwest side of campus near Ferguson Center, Riverside Pool, the School of Engineering, Main Library and the Quad.

The closest dining hall is Lakeside Dining. There is a community kitchen in the basement. Laundry room is available in the basement.

Tutwiler houses 980 women in double rooms, all with community baths. Tutwiler has wireless internet access throughout the building. This hall also has a limited number of rooms available to meet medical needs.

Tutwiler is located on the southwest side of campus near Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Quad, Rose Administration Building and Sorority Row. It is also home to Julia’s Market, a community living room, and laundry facilities.

Dining and Laundry Options
The closest dining hall is Burke Dining. There are community kitchens on the even floors, and a key must be checked out at the desk downstairs. A laundry room is available on the 1st floor.

Presidential Village

This seven-story facility includes two- and four-bedroom suite-style residential facilities for up to 971 freshmen and upperclassmen.

The project is set to be completed and occupied in August 2012.

This new residence hall is located north of Riverside Community, in close proximity to Lakeside Dining and the Black Warrior River. Laundry and common kitchens are included in the building.

Presidential Village will have non-operational windows to maintain indoor air quality.
