David Jones
Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Executive Director of Housing and Residential Communities
Dr. Jones currently serves as the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Executive Director of Housing and Residential Communities and has an adjunct teaching appointment in the College of Education. He has previous teaching, student affairs, and housing experience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Central University, the College of William and Mary, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He is a Past-President of the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers, representing housing professionals in ten southern states. His research interests include college student development, living-learning communities, job satisfaction, and retention. Dr. Jones serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of College and University Student Housing and is a reviewer for the Journal of the First-Year Experience & Students in Transition. He has published nearly twenty articles and made over 50 presentations on a variety of topics. Dr. Jones has a B.A. from the State University of New York College at Oswego, an M.S. from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and a Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary. Jessica Durham
Administrative Specialist
Ms. Durham earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Bellarmine University and plans to begin work on her Master’s degree in Higher Education at UA. She enjoys working in HRC because it brings new and different experiences every day. She enjoys helping students not only with their housing needs but with improving their entire college experience.

Residential Communities
Ross Bryan
Director of Residential Communities
Dr. Bryan came to Housing and Residential Communities in 2005 from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he earned his Ph.D. in the Sociology of Education and served as a Community Director. Dr. Bryan’s previous experiences include serving as Assistant Director for Student Activities at Coastal Carolina University and Coordinator of Student Affairs at the Florida State University College of Law. He is particularly proud of his term as “16 and under” ping-pong champion in Wilmington, NC, in 1987. At UA, Dr. Bryan teaches courses in Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Education, and writes and lectures on the construction of racial identity. Holly Hallmann

Holly Hallmann joined HRC in June 2005. Ms. Hallmann has more than 12 years of residence life experience, with particular interests in living-learning communities and maximizing the experience of first year students. Laura Sanders
Assistant Director, Residence Education
Ms. Sanders joined the HRC staff in the Summer 2008 as the Assistant Director for Residence Education for North Campus. A native of Enterprise, AL, Ms. Sanders earned her Bachelor of Arts from Huntingdon College and Master of Education from Auburn University. She has over 6 years of experience in Residential Life which includes positions at Huntingdon College and Johnson & Wales University, North Miami. Amanda N. Wallace
Programming and Civic Leadership Coordinator
Ms. Wallace came to UA as a Community Director in t he Bryant Community in summer 2006. She became the Programming and Civic Leadership Coordinator in spring 2007. She holds a B.A. in Critical Gender Studies from the University of California, San Diego, and an M.S. in Education from City College of New York. She has previously worked as a High School English/English as a Second Language teacher at the High School for Media and Communication in New York. Sophia Robinson-Everett
Community Director
Mrs. Everett has been the Community Director in Lakeside Residential Community since spring 2007. A native of Indianola, MS, Ms. Everett earned her B.A. and Master’s degree in Counseling Personnel Services from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has extensive experience in Student Affairs, including the areas of Greek Life, Minority Affairs, and Orientation and is active in several professional organizations. She believes that the best part of working in HRC is the close student interaction and the unpredictable environment of the residence hall. Jeremy Henderson
Community Director
Riverside Community Director Jeremy Henderson earned his B.A. and M.A. from The University of Alabama in Communication Studies. In 2004, he joined HRC as a Community Director in the Paty, Blount, Palmer, Somerville, and Friedman community. In 2007, he became the Community Director in Riverside. Mr. Henderson describes Riverside as a warm and welcoming community in which he and his wife can raise their young children, who love interacting with the residents. Mr. Henderson enjoys the opportunities his job gives him to meet students and be a positive influence in their lives.

Ryan Hofman
Community Director
Mr. Hofman, who joined HRC in spring 2007, has a BS in history from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s degree in Liberal Studies from Eastern Michigan University. Allison Montgomery
Community Director
Allison Montgomery joined the HRC staff in the Summer 2008 as the Community Director for the Bryant Community. Originally from New Jersey, Ms. Montgomery earned her Bachelor of Arts from The College of New Jersey and Master of Education in Student Personnel in Higher Education from the University of Florida, where she worked as a Graduate Hall Director for two years. Mary Thornton
Community Director
Ms. Thornton has been the Community Director in the Apartment Community since spring 2006. Previously, she was the Hall Director in Bryce Lawn, the Highlands, and Rose Towers. She earned a B.A. in History from the University and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in History. She enjoys working in HRC because of the family atmosphere that comes with residential living. Elizabeth Russell
Community Director
Ms. Russell holds a BA in Theatre from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and a graduate degree in College Student Personnel. Having joined the HRC staff in 2007, she still roots for both Alabama and Tennessee, which only presents a problem when they play each other. Ms. Russell loves the energy that flows from people who work in housing and likes to share in and add to that positive energy.

Barbra Green
Community Director
Ms. Green became the Community Director in Tutwiler in Fall 2005. She previously served as a Hall Director and Resident Advisor at the University. She has a B.A. from the University in Human Environmental Sciences and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Ms. Green enjoys the particularly strong sense of community in Tutwiler, where residents have numerous opportunities to interact with each other on a daily basis. Jimmy Hubbard
Community Director
Mr. Hubbard joined HRC in summer 2007 as Community Director in the Hackberry Community. Previously, he served as Hall Director at the University of Tennessee at Martin and as Associate Dean of Students/Resident Director at Bethel College in McKenzie, TN. He enjoys working in HRC because of the opportunity he has to educate students in a wide range of life skills and assist them in becoming productive and active citizens in the world community. Mr. Hubbard is proud of the close community in Burke and Parham that brings returning students back beyond their freshman year. Pam Smelser

Ms. Smelser joined HRC in fall 2007. She has worked at UA for several years, including six years in the Art Department. She and her family, including a son who currently attends UA, another who is a UA alumnus, and future UA student in middle school, are huge Alabama football fans. Linda Daniel

Ms. Daniel has worked at The University of Alabama since 2001, when she joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Alicia Browne
Associate Director for Assignments, Information and Communication
Ms. Browne joined HRC in September 2005. Her role within the department includes communication with students, parents, and the media, and overall responsibility for the assignments process. She has Master’s degrees in history and Museum Studies and previously worked as Director of Public Relations at the Children’s Hands-On Museum in Tuscaloosa. Mrs. Morris has been with the UA for over 13 years, and has been working within HRC for 10 years. Judy Carter
Assignment Coordinator
Ms. Carter is a native of Tuscaloosa and a UA alumna with a B.S. in education. She is involved with the Tuscaloosa County Chapter of the National Alumni Association and the National Alumni Association. She is also the current House Corporation President of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Ms. Carter loves working in student affairs and HRC because of the people and the atmosphere. A huge Alabama booster, Ms. Carter finds it easy to promote all the positive things about the University and campus housing. “After a campus visit,” she says, “I don’t know how anyone could choose not to attend UA.”

Sandra "Sandy" Riseman

Ms. Riseman joined the HRC staff in October 2007 after a variety of previous positions. With a degree in creative writing, she has learned to “either be flexible or enjoy bone soup.” Her past jobs have ranged from mental health worker to writer, and she has learned something from each of them. She came to HRC to enjoy one of her interests, contact with students and parents. Associate Director for Business AdministrationMrs. Ember is a native of Kentucky, but has been a part of The University of Alabama since 2000. Tracy Perkins
Manager of Fiscal AffairsMs. Perkins, an Air Force brat and native Midwesterner, has a BBA in Accounting from the University of Georgia and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Ms. Perkins joined HRC in 2007 after many years in the healthcare finance industry. She enjoys providing financial administrative support to HRC staff by performing budget and financial analysis functions as well as answering questions. Mr. Beville, a native of Asheville, NC, has a B.A. in Sociology from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and an M.A. in Communication Studies from UA. Mr. Hall has a B.A. in history from Duke University and has been a teacher, coach, and athletic director at several schools throughout West Alabama.
